Our first-ever "virtual lights-off"


Over the years, the lights-off moment saw entire streets, buildings, landmarks, and city skylines go dark - an unmissable sight that drew public attention to nature loss and the climate crisis. 

This year - amidst the current global circumstances - we invite you to raise awareness and create the same unmissable sight online, so that the world sees our planet, the issues we face, and our place within it, in a new light.

👉 How? It's simple. On the night of Earth Hour, we'll be posting a must-watch video on all our social media pages - and all you have to do is share it. 


Share it to your Stories or to your wall, re-Tweet it, send it via DM, tag friends in the comments - the choice is yours! 
 
🌍👀 Our goal is simple: put the digital spotlight on our planet and make it the most watched video in the world on March 27 (or beyond!) so that as many people as possible hear our message.

What will the must-watch video be about?

We're keeping that a secret for now, but we may be sharing a sneak-peak before Earth Hour 😉

We can however share our two aims for this video:

1. Help others - especially those who are not environmentally conscious - to see their role amidst the planetary crisis in a new light

2. Build momentum towards the United Nations' Conference on Biodiversity later in the year - a conference where world leaders will have the opportunity to secure an international commitment to protect and restore nature by 2030.

 

Do I have to share the video publicly on my profile?

While we would greatly appreciate it if you shared the video publicly for all your friends and followers to see, you don't have to if you don't want to!

You can simply @mention / @tag your friends in the comments, or send the video via direct message (DM).

Whether you share the video with one person, ten people, a hundred or a thousand, know that you will be helping us place a spotlight on our planet in a time we need it most. 

How do I share the video on Instagram?

In addition to sharing via Direct Message (DM) or @tagging your friends in the comments, you can also share our video to your Story! Here's how:

Can I share the video outside of social media?

Absolutely! In addition to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, we'll also be posting the video on YouTube. You can then send the video link via email, WhatsApp, or any other messaging platform!

The next decade (and beyond) is at stake

 
2021 presents an incredible opportunity to push world leaders into action.
 
In a few months time, representatives from all over the globe will be attending the 15th meeting of the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Kunming, China.
 
The state of nature and biodiversity will be the focus for this conference, and global plans will be made for the next 10 years - decisions that will affect not only the next decade, but our future and well-being for many years to come. With enough public support, this conference could be the conference where we secure an international commitment - signed by world leaders - to end nature loss and put our planet on the path to recovery by 2030
 
By speaking up for nature this Earth Hour 2021, we can put the global spotlight on our planet's issues and build the momentum needed to influence the direction of this crucial United Nations Biodiversity Conference.
